Dear Career
and Workforce Readiness Program Coordinator:
There are many challenges you face today. We live in an age of accountability, ever-increasing standards and the state and federal mandates, guidelines and responsibilities mandated such as the No Child Left Behind Act. There are times it feels like the only thing we are concerned about is academic achievement. But, if you have been in education for any time at all, you know that academic achievement alone does not guarantee a successful classroom, school, or in our case, a successful future employee. When students learn to make good character choices at home, in school and in the workplace, the overall culture and climate in your classroom and school is more conducive to learning.
As the Career and Workforce Readiness Program Coordinator you are the one who has the unique position of power and respect to present the benefits of living a life with good character. You are the one that can make the connection to good character in the workplace and its relationship to overall success in life.
Being a Career and Workforce Readiness Program Coordinator gives you many opportunities to show each student the value of good character and its relationship to success in the world of work and in life. The opportunity for you and your students to learn the value and principles of work ethic and good character is never more important or appropriate than it is in Career
and Workforce Readiness programs. Whether in the classroom or in the workplace, your interaction with your students provides "teachable moments" you can use to illustrate the meaning, value and rewards of work ethic and good character.
We are pleased to announce that Dr. Mike Thomson, host of the In Search of Character Video/DVD series has completed a special guide that includes Discussion Questions, Reading and Writing Activities as well as Group and Technology Activities designed specifically for inclusion in your Career programs.
